The Jobsite WiFi web portal is a valuable tool for you to manage the performance of a DEWALT Jobsite WiFi system, either on site or in an offsite office. The quick-view dashboard, optimized for desktop and mobile devices, allows users to easily view and manage the status and health of each network. If a problem arises in the field, the dashboard will pinpoint which access point is struggling to easily diagnose the problem.
Since the Jobsite WiFi system was released in March 2018, there have been several key product enhancements:
1. Addition of Virtual Local Area Networks (VLANs) Capabilities
Virtual Local Area Networks (VLANs) are common practice within IT organizations to segment guest and office traffic to ensure uniformity between office and field use. This also means that data traffic between WiFi networks is segmented, allowing more secure implementation from guest users. According to Mike Stoller, DEWALT Digital Product Manager, “Managing the jobsite as a logical extension of the office is critical. Web-based controls such as VLANs create seamless use from the office, to the trailer and onto the site.”
2. SSO (Single Sign On) Integration with Procore
DEWALT’s SSO integration with Procore will allow authorized users of both systems to securely access the DEWALT Jobsite WiFi system via their Procore login credentials. This integration provides convenience and simplicity to users juggling multiple systems with different credentials.
“Simplicity is key for our DEWALT Jobsite WiFi system. Our users need access to WiFi that just works,” says Kelly Musselwhite, VP of Digital Construction Solutions at DEWALT. “Now contractors can distribute WiFi access automatically through Procore. It’s one more way our contractors can worry less about connectivity and focus on building.”
The free integration will start beta testing in August with qualifying Procore customers. To apply to be a beta user, please contact jobsitewifi@DEWALT.com.
3. Register & Configure Access Points Remotely
In addition to using the Jobsite WiFi mobile app onsite to configure access points, users can now simply plug a single access point into an Ethernet cable, select it within the DEWALT WiFi website, and configure it with a single click. A user can even plug in multiple access points to an Ethernet cable and update all of them with one click, which offers immense potential to save time.
“For many construction companies, remote configuration of access points further simplifies the process of deploying WiFi setup,” says Stoller. “A user in the field can simply take an access point to the field office, connect it to Ethernet, and let a remote IT group take care of the rest.”
This configuration model is the first in a series of bulk actions the DEWALT team is testing to improve efficiencies.
